Full analysis: is the SQL code a backdoor?

🔐 Security clarification

We state it clearly: paid plugins such as PlayerTitle did introduce a "dynamically generated SQL" feature for license verification between versions 4.4.x and 4.5.5.

That feature has been completely removed in later versions, because:

  • ❌ Its performance was hard to optimize and could cause server lag
  • 🔐 It was security sensitive and did not help user trust
  • 🧨 It was spread around as a "backdoor", which caused unnecessary worry and debate

Today no plugin contains that feature, so every server owner can use them with peace of mind.

📌 What it was: "Dynamically generated SQL" means the plugin built and sent SQL statements to the server at runtime for every operation. It has been permanently dropped.

💌 A letter to server owners

Dear server owners,

Since the first plugin PlayerTitle was released in 2020, the Rice Plugins team has been developing and maintaining plugins for 5 years, growing from a single title plugin into an ecosystem of several directions:

  • ✅ 19 fully free plugins
  • 🌟 6 open-source paid plugins
  • 💡 3 semi-paid plugins (free base features)
  • 🔒 7 paid-only plugins

Across hundreds of releases there has never been a security incident or malicious behaviour, and we keep the long-term support and trust of our users.

Challenges we face

  1. Community management pressure Development and our day jobs mean QQ group messages cannot always be answered in time, and cleaning up inactive members may sometimes be misunderstood.

  2. Keeping user trust Some users worry about our long-term maintenance ability and direction.

  3. Sustainability Free updates and income need a healthy balance so the plugins can keep growing.

✅ Our commitments

We commit to keeping the same high quality and pace:

  • 🔧 Keep maintaining the existing plugins and make sure they run stably
  • ⛏ Support new Minecraft versions as a priority
  • 🆓 Keep making free plugins (5 released since April 2024)
  • 💵 Keep the release rate of paid plugins low (only 1 in the same period)
  • 🧩 Take custom plugin requests and feature votes — feel free to ask
